Rovers hope to keep City and Spurs at bay over Roque as another Santa cruises into Blackburn
Blackburn Rovers have signed star striker Roque Santa Cruz's younger brother, Julio...
In what is bound to be seen by many as a ploy from the Lancashire club to keep the in-demand Paraguay international, they have signed 18-year-old forward Julio, the former Bayern Munich man's younger brother.
Julio has signed a three-year contract, though the deal's completion is subject to international clearance.
Young Santa-Cruz has trialled with the club since the end of last season and now signs from Paraguayan side Cerro Porteno.
"I am very happy to be here at Blackburn, it will be an amazing adventure for me," Julio told the club's official website.
Meanwhile, despite Roque's repeated declarations of loyalty to the Rovers, he continues to be linked with Manchester City, where he would link up with the manager who brought him to Ewood Park, Mark Hughes. Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also thought to have one eye on the 26-year-old as both clubs may require further reinforcements up front.
"Normally, managers want two players for each role. The fact that Brett can play there and also at right-back, we're quite lucky with that."

Winging It
Meanwhile, Blackburn boss Paul Ince has revealed that he is keen on signing a winger, having sold star player David Bentley to Tottenham for an initial £15 million. "We are looking at bringing in one or two players - not just for that position [wing], but in other positions too," said Ince. "We've got to remember that Brett [Emerton] and Reidy [Steven Reid] can play down there. I think Dunny [David Dunn] has also played there in the past."Normally, managers want two players for each role.
