THE RETURN OF THE EMPEROR: ADRIANO BACK AT SAN SIRO
Adriano has thanked the Inter fans for the reception they have given him upon his return to the club.
A few years ago the 26-year-old was regarded as one of the best strikers in world football, however the death of his father in 2006 led to a big decline in fortunes both on-and-off the pitch.
Adriano suffered devastating personal problems such depression, alcoholism and the inability to sleep, he put on weight, his performances dropped, and he was soon regularly sitting on the substitutes bench.
In November 2007, Adriano was given permission to travel to Brazil to receive rehabilitation for his problems, and it was eventually agreed that he would join Sao Paulo on loan until the end of the European season. At the South American giants he found his form again, finishing top-scorer, and won his place back in the Brazil national team squad.
Adriano has now returned back to Inter for the new season, and he has received a rousing reception from the Nerazzurri fans, something that has touched the striker.
"It's pointless to deny it but I was very pleased to hear all those songs for me,” said ‘The Emperor’.
“It means that the fans have not forgotten what I've done with this shirt. Now I feel like I have to pay them back, and I hope for a really great season with Inter."
