Barcelona soccer star Eto'o may take Uzbek offer
Samuel Eto'o could make an incredible move to Uzbekistan side Kuruvchi after flying to the country to discuss a mega offer to play for them.
The transfer is reported to make Eto'o one of the highest earning players in the world if he accepts and his arrival in Uzbekistan - originally supposed to be just for promotional purposes - has pushed the deal even closer.
"He is is Tashkent and will sign a contract tomorrow," the Kuruvchi official told Goal.com. "He will sign for three or six months, we will have to see about that.
"It is a big signing in the world of football and, of course, for all people in Uzbekistan. He will play in the Asian Champions League and then we will see."
Eto'o has been told that he is no longer part of Barcelona's plans and along with the usual list of big name clubs aspiring to sign him was one unusual offer.
According to reports, the striker was offered the chance to become one of the best paid footballers ever with a contract worth €40m on the table if he chose to go to Uzbekistan.
L'Equipe have quoted the club as denying that the amount is that high, but confirming that a bid had been made and it was now down to the player to choose.
Barcelona Agree Cut-Price Sale?
It is not clear if the deal is done yet, but the Uzbek club seem confident that everything is in place, including a deal with Barcelona."The defining moment of the transfer was not money, but the friendly mutual relations between the management of our club and Barcelona," added Kuruvuchi. "The personal friendship between the presidents of the clubs has noticeably lowered the transfer fee.
The primary purpose of the trip was to promote football in the country, we understand, and other Barcelona players could also visit Uzbekistan in the coming weeks.
It is an incredible story for a player that has also been linked with Milan, Inter, Arsenal and Chelsea and would see him put the Asian country on the map of world football.
Barca Looking For Replacements
Still on official summer holiday from Barça, Eto'o has stated that he will not discuss what he will do next publicly until he reports back to Camp Nou. Negotiations have been planned and coach Pep Guardiola has hinted that if the player does not leave the club then he would be incorporated into the squad like any other player.President Joan Laporta has confirmed that Eto'o will be leaving the club and he hopes that the forward will be able to go with his head held high like Ronaldinho.
"Eto'o is expected on the 19th and we will see the available options for him to play for another club. This is a decision of Barça, the technical secretary and the backroom team," he said.
"We have a very good relationship with Eto'o and his representative. We will do the best for the club and the player. We want him to leave like Ronaldinho, with big honours."
Technical secretary Txiki Begiristain is prepared to listen to any club that is prepared to come close to Barça's asking price for Eto'o and is hopeful a deal can be done soon.
"There are many teams interested in him. We hope that he can agree terms with a club he likes and negotiate with that club," he explained.
