Eagles Lands At Turfmoor

Burnley have completed the signing of Manchester United winger Chris Eagles in a deal worth about £1.25million.

Eagles had starred in United’s summer African tour, scoring twice. He netted the equaliser in the South African encounter against Kaizer Chiefs as well as scoring the opener in the win over Portsmouth in Nigeria.

However, Eagles only managed six senior first team appearances for the Red Devils in the five years he was at the club, scoring one Premier League goal.

The 22-year-old makes a permanent deal away from Old Trafford after loan spells at Watford, Sheffield Wednesday and NEC Nimegen.

Of the capture, Burnley manager Owen Coyle said: "I have watched Chris for years and he has always impressed me. He is just a really gifted footballer, so I asked the question a few times and the answer was no all the time.

“I just kept going back and in the end that has paid off because we have undoubtedly signed a quality player. It's a substantial sum of money, with adds-ons included, but I think it is fair to say that we have finally landed one of our major targets."

Coyle intends to lower the average-age of his squad next season, something which is represented by the signing of Eagles.

He continued: "I am not saying we will achieve it overnight but we have set or stall out to try to bring younger footballers to the club and develop the team to build it year on year.”
