Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Must Offer Frank Lampard New Deal
According to the Mirror, Chelsea are ready to meet Frank Lampard’s demand of a five-year contract extension.
The British newspaper quoted ‘a senior club source’ when revealing details of the impending deal. It is believed that the England international will receive £150,000 a week under the terms of the new agreement.
Both player and club have been involved in a year-long contractual stand-off, with Chelsea only prepared to extend the length of any deal to four years. Lampard wanted assurances from the Stamford Bridge outfit that a five-year offer would be tabled, and the dispute threatened to steer him towards the exit-door.
Internazionale are still interested in clinching the 30-year-old’s signature, with ex-Pensioners manager Jose Mourinho eager to hook up with Lampard once again.
However, it seems as though a compromise has been reached between Chelsea and Lampard, with news of the deal appearing in The Mirror.
The Chelsea source stated: "There will be no movement on the money but the length of the deal is likely to be increased to meet Frank's demands. Hopefully when we return from the tour the issue can finally be put to bed."
The source went on to suggest that the player was possibly using the extra 12 months issue as an excuse to part company with the club.
"It does seem a bit odd that Frank is holding out for another 12 months when a very favourable deal has been put to him,” he added.
“And by offering him the extra year at least we will know once and for all whether this has been the main obstacle preventing him from committing his future to the club."
The new deal would see Lampard potentially earn a staggering £37million over the next five years.
