AZ Sign Icelandic Wunderkind, Eye Ooijer

Alkmaar side AZ have signed Icelandic hot prospect Olafur Karl Finsen. The Eredivisie team are also thinking about Blackburn defender Andre Ooijer.

The signing of Finsen was wrapped up yesterday evening, with the youngster signing a deal that expires in 2011. The wunderkind will begin in the AZ youth team.

“I signed for AZ, because the chance to develop into a big player is really high at this club,” Finsen told the official AZ website. The versatile attacker can play as a striker and as a winger.

The Alkmaar side haven’t given up on signing Andre Ooijer (pictured) either. The stopper would love to end his career at AZ according to VI. However, Blackburn don’t seem to be willing to let go of their defender.

The Eredivisie side made an enquiry about Ooijer’s availability last winter, but Blackburn made it clear that they were not letting him go at that point. The Dutch international was also linked with Dutch giants Ajax and PSV earlier this summer.

Dead Wood

Meanwhile, Alkmaar's attacking midfielders Haris Medunjanin and Simon Cziommer are no longer needed.

Medunjanin is currently on trial at Primera Division side Real Valladolid. The youngster has been unable to secure a spot in Louis van Gaal’s starting eleven despite his huge talent.

German midfielder Cziommer has lost his fight to force his way into the first XI as Van Gaal prefers the likes of Maarten Martens and Brett Holman in his fluid midfield. The 27-year-old Cziommer’s contract expires in 2010, but has been informed that he’s surplus to requirements.
