River Offered but Chelsea Reject?

Peruvian Pizarro was offered to Argentinian giants River Plate, club president Jose Maria Aguilar reveals today...

Claudio Pizarro, 29, moved to Chelsea in a free transfer last summer. Since then, despite over twenty appearances for the Blues' first team, he has failed to establish himself and show Stamford Bridge the hot form he produced in Germany. The 'Inca God' as he was dubbed by German media, has been a disappointment in the Premier League and Chelsea chiefs are now planning his release.

River Plate are the current Clausura champions and, along with Boca Juniors, are one of the biggest firms in Argentinian football. Today, the Press Association quote their club president, Jose Maria Aguilar as telling reporters: "We've had an informal chat. We are offered a hundred players. Pizarro is a first-class footballer playing at one of the most powerful, most important clubs in the world."

On the prospect of signing the Chelsea misfit, he said: "Right now, there is no real chance [to sign Pizarro]."

Pizarro has been capped 53 times for his native Peru, and has netted 13 times in the process.
