Trezeguet: Quitting international football

Juventus striker David Trezeguet has announced his retirement from the international game and he has blamed Raymond Domenech for his decision.

The Frenchman was snubbed by Domenech for this summer’s Euro 2008 tournament despite the striker scoring 20 goals last term for Juventus in Serie A.

Trezegol is on pre-season duties with the Bianconeri and he has waved good bye to the international game.

“Domenech stays means that I leave the French national team,” Trezeguet told La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

“The poor Euro 2008 by France and the coach’s choice to stay have led me to take this irreversible decision.

“I have seen a different football to that which they see in France and the Euro’s were so negative.

“However, what makes me angry is Domenech staying on as coach.

“Too many political rather than football decisions are being made and the public opinion is not being respected.”

The Old Lady hit-man then had a few words on his club side and he believes some more players need to come in to make that vital step up.

“We need to win some important trophies this year and we have to make the odd signing in order to make the step up in terms of quality,” concluded the former Monaco player.

Despite his fine record, "Trezegol" was a late developer for France, cementing a regular place in the starting line-up only when Jacques Santini took over from Roger Lemerre after the 2002 World Cup failure.

But he has not been slow in making up for lost time.

Together with Henry, a former team mate in their younger days at Monaco, he now has his eye on Michel Platini`s all-time record haul of 41 goals for his country and, at just 26, he has time on his side.

Trezeguet, whose father is from Argentina, started his career at Platense in that country before joining Monaco in 1995 and then Juventus, Platini`s old Italian club, in 2000.
