The Sabah FA striker was shocked to see the condition of the pitch during the 2-0 win against Kuala Lumpur FA.
Sabah's import player El Hadji Diouf has expressed his disappointment over the condition of the pitch following the 2-0 win against Kuala Lumpur at Merdeka Stadium recently. The former Liverpool player stated that if he knew the conditions earlier, he would not have come to play in Malaysia.
According to Utusan, Diouf stated that such conditions should not occur in Malaysia as the M-League is starting to get the attention from the rest of the world.
“It was disappointing when I looked at the pitch and I really never thought that I would play in such condition. Merdeka Stadium is a memorial place so they should preserve it better than this.
“The condition was bad, which gave the players (a) hard time to play well. The fans paid the tickets to watch a great game, and if we couldn’t give that to them due to the bad pitch, then I feel very sorry for the fans.”
During the game, Diouf scored one and created another in the 2-0 win as Sabah began their journey to earn promotion to next season’s Super League.
Diouf's goal was from the penalty spot after Leopold Alfonso was fouled in the 45th minute, and the lead was later doubled through Shafuan Adli.
