Ribéry still hope for big club

Bayern may not be pleased, but their star playmaker has revealed that he has designs on playing for one of Europe's biggest clubs in the future, and has compared himself to Lionel Messi...

Frank Ribéry has revealed that his dream is to play for one of Europe's richest clubs - and he believes that he is a similar player to Lionel Messi in the way that both can influence a game.

The French international is enjoying his spell with Bayern Munich, but has told Kicker that he dreams of joining the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United or Chelsea.

When Ribéry chose to join Bayern in the summer of 2007, that move caused a stir, while injury at Euro 2008 prevented any of the continent's biggest spenders from making an approach.

"Bayern is obviously one of the biggest and best clubs in the world," he said. "Obviously there are other clubs who would be a dream: Real Madrid and Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United.

"I certainly love Real Madrid because of their great tradition, but I feel happy here at Bayern. We will have to wait and see what the future holds."
His revelation that he would like to play for Spain's or England's finest may not be a surprise - and nor will the comparison to Messi, even if Ribéry made it himself.

"I think about Messi above everyone else. I think we have a similar style, we create the rhythm and we play for the whole team," he explained.

Real Madrid are on the look-out for a right-sided winger in the winter transfer window, but Ribéry's comment was not an invitation to bid now, while Bayern would reject any move in the middle of the season.
