Sunderland complete swoop for Healy
Sunderland have completed the signing of David Healy from Fulham, the North East club announced yesterday.
Healy was always a near certainty to leave Craven Cottage this summer, having netted just four goals during his season-long stay in west London.
Sunderland have been strongly linked with the Northern Ireland striker in recent weeks, and Cottagers boss Roy Hodgson confirmed recently that Healy was due on Wearside to undergo a medical.
And the Mackems have ended all speculation by officially unveiling the 29-year-old yesterday after landing him for an undisclosed fee.
Healy is Roy Keane's eighth signing of the summer, and the Black Cats boss is delighted to bring his former Manchester United team-mate to the Stadium of Light.
"David will be a good signing for us," Keane told the club's official website. "He has lots of experience at the top level and his international record is phenomenal.
"He scored a few goals for Fulham last season, one of them was a well-taken strike against us at Craven Cottage, and he's another signing who will increase competition for places."
Healy is similarly thrilled to link up with Keane: "I know Roy Keane from my Manchester United days and it's a privilege to join him at Sunderland."
The former Leeds poacher is also eager to prove himself in the eyes of the supporters by replicating the sort of form that has seen him score 34 times in 64 international outings.
"I'm well aware of the passion of the Sunderland fans, having played at the Stadium of Light a few times, and I can't wait to get going," he said. "It's an exciting move for me."
