Alex Manninger joins Juventus
Juventus have signed former Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Manninger.
The former Arsenal goalkeeper has been a target for the Old Lady since his Arsenal days. Juve did, indeed, try to sign him back then but the Gunners turned down their offers.
However, the Austrian shot-stopper has finally landed in Turin to act as Gian Luigi Buffon's deputy for the coming season.
The former Siena 'Keeper is delighted with his latest adventure and he cannot wait to get started.
“I am very happy to have arrived at Juventus,” said Manninger.
“Here football really counts., I have gained a lot of experience playing for smaller sides but I was at Arsenal a few years ago and I wanted to return to a big club at the highest level.
“We all know Buffon’s ability and his role in this squad.
“Only one goalkeeper can play at a time but in a squad of 25 there must be more than one custodian and we have three.
“I’m ready to give as much of a contribution as I can make to this team.”
The latest reports in Italy suggest that the Austrian has arrived for €1m on a four year deal.
Manninger was at Siena last season and he was outstanding for the Tuscan side in between the sticks.
La Vecchia Signora have added some excellent cover as an experienced goalkeeper is what was needed as the club aim for the Scudetto and Champions League next term.
