The Roma boss became embroiled in fresh controversy on Sunday after his side's Serie A clash with Salernitana just days after a bad-tempered clash against Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt
Jose Mourinho accused of "shameful behaviour" and "arrogance" after touchline bust-up
The Italian press has not reacted well to Inter coach Jose Mourinho's attack on Juventus colleague Claudio Ranieri.
Today the Italian media had a chance to give their reaction to Inter coach Jose Mourinho's attack on his Juventus colleague and fellow former Chelsea coach Claudio Ranieri, and it wasn't pretty. Stefano Agresti of sports daily 'Corriere dello Sport' wrote a particularly scathing column, but he certainly wasn't the only one who criticised the Portuguese coach.
"It was ugly listening to Mourinho attacking Ranieri," wrote Agresti. "The tone, method and content were all hideous. We had rarely heard such strong and offensive comments made by an experienced professional about his colleague. And we're in Italy!"
"That doesn't even cover the errors, which considering Mourinho's perfectionism were probably planted there on purpose, concerning Ranieri's age and trophy haul.
"What was truly ugly in his words was the extreme arrogance which had been glimpsed in his Premier League experience, but now we have experienced it first-hand, it's even more direct and painful.
"Clearly, we are not scandalised and we don't want to censor jokes, especially since it was Ranieri who started this verbal tennis match a few days ago. But there should never be a lack of respect, not in any debate, no matter how heated. Mourinho responded to a nudge with a punch in the face, striking out at both Ranieri and good taste."
The 'Corriere dello Sport' columnist even urged president Massimo Moratti to take a stand against this interview, which the coach made to the club's official television channel: "It would be a good thing if someone within the club's administration reminds him that the line between personality and arrogance is a fine one. Moratti is not used to crossing that line."
It looks set to be a long, epic battle between Mourinho and the rest of the Italian football world, media included of course.
