Lazio made nearly €9 million in profit on Lichtsteiner after he signed from Lille for just €1.5 million in 2008.
Switzerland captain Stephan Lichtsteiner signs for Lazio
Lazio have officially completed the signing of Swiss defender Stephan Lichtsteiner from Lille.
With Valon Behrami leaving the club to join West Ham United, Lazio have been on the lookout for a new right back, and they have been in negotiations in recent weeks with Lille for Swiss star Lichtsteiner.
A deal has now been agreed, with Lille officially confirming the transfer.
A statement on the French club’s website reads: "Lazio and Lille have reached an agreement which completely satisfies the two parties and he will be transferred before the end of his contract which was set to run until summer 2009."
Lichsteiner has been a steady presence on the right side of Lille’s team for the last three years, playing every role from full-back through to winger.
This has enabled the 24-year-old utility man to catch the eye of some of Europe’s top clubs, including Real Madrid, who took an interest in the player at the beginning of the summer but then elected against making a move.
Lichsteiner has won 15 caps for the Swiss national team, and played for his country at Euro 2008.
