MADRID, July 22 (Reuters) - Barcelona have agreed to sign Brazilian defender Henrique on a five-year deal from Palmeiras for a fee of eight million euros ($12.74 million), but said the player will be loaned out to Bayer Leverkusen next season.
Soccer-Barcelona to sign Henrique, loan player to Leverkusen
Finally. Brazilian defender Henrique has finally put pen to paper with Barcelona, and just hours after doing so the same at Bayer Leverkusen to complete his loan move. It's all official now.
21-year-old defender Henrique has been linked with a move from Palmeiras to Barcelona for weeks, but only within the past twenty-four hours did he finally arrive at Camp Nou to seal a deal with the blaugrana.
After completing his medicals yesterday he was able to meet with president Joan Laporta for the official signing (pictured), as well as meeting with some players.
Carles Puyol, Xavi, and Andrés Iniesta were all in town for their own brief check-ups before heading to Scotland to join the rest of the squad for pre-season training, but this union in Catalunya was not to last long.
For mere hours later Henrique was on the road again to Leverkusen, Germany, where he signed a one-year loan deal with Bayer 04.
The Werkself were busy losing 1-0 to Alemannia Aachen in a friendly match, although they were given reason to smile via Renato Augusto's decent debut and Henrique's prompt signing of his contract shortly after his arrival.
Henrique is Barça's seventh signing of the summer and the only Barcelona first teamer currently out on loan. Bayer, who awarded the ex-Coritoba man the number 20 shirt, have landed a further three players this transfer window.
