American goalkeeper Brad Friedel signed a three-year contract with English club Aston Villa on Saturday.
Friedel joins Aston Villa on 3-year deal
Aston Villa have completed the signing of former Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Brad Friedel. The American arrives at Villa Park after penning a three-year deal, and while the terms of transfer were undisclosed it's thought that he cost the Villans £2.5m.
Aston Villa confirmed the deal this afternoon via their official website.
The Midland side have been on the hunt for a new, experienced goalkeeper since the departure of Thomas Sorensen at the end of his contract.
And with Liverpool stopper Scott Carson having ended his loan spell at signed for West Bromwich Albion, no regular 'keepers remained at Villa Park at all.
Friedel, then, will most likely serve as first choice come the new season after leaving Blackburn, who in turn acquired Paul Robinson of Tottenham Hotspur.
No fee has been announced for the move, but it is thought that Martin O'Neill's side paid £2.5m for the veteran American.
Friedel, 37, formerly represented Galatasaray and Liverpool, as well as Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew.
