Paatelainen played with some top, high profile superstars throughout his career
Mixu Paatelainen best XI: Former Hibs, Aberdeen and Wolves striker names his top team
Hibernian boss Mixu Paatelainen has stated that Barcelona are the best team in the world after seeing his team demolished by the Catalan giants in a pre-season friendly.
The Finnish coach was overawed by the touch and movement of Pep Guardiola's side as they scored six past his beleaguered Scottish Premier League outfit.
Hibs' first game of the season is just over two weeks away against Kilmarnock, but Paatelainen is confident that the Barça result will not affect his team's start to the campaign.
"We will be fine when the Kilmarnock game comes around. We faced a very high quality side today - the best team in the world," he told reporters.
"It was a disappointment for myself and the players but we realise who we were playing against."
With the new campaign approaching, Paatelainen knew Barça would be a difficult test and is hoping that his players will learn from their own performance and their opponents.
"We knew we were facing one of the best teams in the world and we got a real lesson," he continued. "The players won't like watching the video tomorrow but that's the way forward.
"I'm very disappointed, gutted. we knew the defence would be under pressure and it was a real test for us.
"In the first half, we should have done better and kept our shape better. They are quality players, a fantastic side and their passing and finishing was first class."
Lionel Messi was inspirational in the first half down the right flank and continuously cause Hibs' defence problems, but Paatelainen admitted that whole Barça team was outstanding.
"He is a fantastic player to watch on TV but he is a pain when he plays against you. He is a tremendous player and wasn't the only one tonight. The movement and passing killed us," he added.
