Palermo claim to have rejected Manchester United bid for Paulo Dybala

‘Dybala is worth over €40m [£31m] but I won’t sell him until June’

Striker has been dubbed ‘the new Sergio Agüero’

Palermo claim they have rejected interest from Manchester United in the 21-year-old striker Paulo Dybala.

But the Italian club’s president, Maurizio Zamparini, says he is willing to talk again in the summer about the Argentinian, who has scored nine goals in 17 appearances this season.

“Dybala is worth over €40m [£31m] but I won’t sell him until June,” Zamparini told Radio Due. “Many foreign clubs asked after him, including Manchester United. I told the English side that he is not for sale right now, but we can talk about it again in six months. In my view, he is the best striker in Europe at the moment.”

Palermo signed Dybala from the Argentinian club Instituto for £9m in 2012. Afterwards Zamparini described him as “the new Sergio Agüero”.

BIO

Dybala began his footballing education as a youngster with Instituto in his hometown of Cordoba, Argentina.

The club granted him a first-team debut at the age of just 17, and he quickly became the club's youngest ever goalscorer - beating the record previously held by none other than Mario Kempes.

Unfortunately for Instituto, their young striker's performances meant his profile quickly grew, and the second-tier Argentine side were powerless to keep him when interest from Europe arrived.

Italian side Palermo - famed for their peerless South American scouting network - were the ones to benefit, with club president Maurizio Zamparini declaring Dybala "the new Sergio Aguero" upon securing his signature.

The Argentine marked just his second start for the club by bagging a brace against Sampdoria, but just one goal followed in the remainder of the 2012-13 season as Palermo slipped out of the Italian top-flight.

Dybala went off the radar last season due to his club's relegation, but continued his development in Serie B, playing a key role as Giuseppe Iachini's men were promoted as champions.

And 2014-15 has proved to be a breakout season for the 21-year-old, who has dazzled on his return to Serie A.

Unfortunately for Palermo, that has meant the interest of several European giants has been piqued, with Manchester United believed to be among them.

Dybala is yet to make a senior appearance at international level, but has made clear he wishes to play for Argentina despite being eligible for call-ups from Italy and Poland.
