Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich made sure of landing Lucas Piazon this week.

The Mirror says Chelsea won the race to sign Brazilian starlet Piazon by handing him £1million to join them - a record payment to a teenager.

Roman Abramovich has sanctioned the £5.3m swoop for the 17-year-old Sao Paolo attacking midfielder, who is picking up a FIFTH of that amount as his part of the transfer.

Italian giants Juventus also wanted Piazon, but Abramovich was determined to land him after being advised to buy him by trusted Dutch talent-spotter Pete de Visser.

Bio

Lucas Domingues Piazón (born 20 January 1994 in Curitiba, Brazil), commonly known as Lucas Piazon, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for São Paulo youth side and will play for Chelsea as of 20 January 2012 and the Brazil U17. He can play a playmaker role or in the hole just behind the striker.

A tactical player, he is known for his passing, powerful shooting, free-kick taking, reading of the game and goalscoring ability.


Personal life

Piazón was born in Curitiba, Brasil and moved to Sao Paulo at the age of 12.

Club career

Youth years

Piazón joined Coritiba at an early age. Later he joined Atlético Paranaense. He then joined São Paulo from Atlético Paranaense in 2008, showing promise at the tender age of 14. Piazón is a regular player for São Paulo FC's youth side.

Chelsea

On 15 March São Paulo announced that Piazón would join Chelsea during the 2012 January transfer window when he becomes eligible to obtain a work visa and sign a long-term deal, while Chelsea announced 10 days later.It is reported that Chelsea paid in the region of £5 million to acquire Piazon, which could rise to £8 million depending on several clauses. Chelsea is also paying him a £1 million signing on fee when he joins.

Piazón underwent and passed his medical in early March 2011, in London. He will be officially available for Chelsea on 20 January 2012.

International record

Piazón has represented Brazil on a under-15 level, aiding his team to second place in the South American Under-15 Football Championship of 2009 in Bolivia, in which he was the top goalscorer with ten goals.

During an international game for Brazil's U17 squad against Paraguay, Piazón started and scored in bizarre fashion. He kicked the ball with such force that it broke through the side netting of the goal post in the process as Brazil went on to lose 2–1. He is playing with with the Brazil's U17 team in the South American Under-17 Football Championship.
