Pizarro Thankful For Chelsea Exit

Claudio Pizarro, who this week sealed a loan move from Chelsea to Werder Bremen, has thanked the London club for allowing him to leave after an unsuccessful spell at Stamford Bridge.

The Peruvian striker joined the Blues from last summer from Bayern Munich however he endured a miserable season in West London and has now agreed to join Bundesliga side Werder Bremen on a season long loan.

Speaking about the move, the former Chelsea striker said: “Chelsea have been very helpful and I would like to thank them.”

Pizarro had a great start to his Chelsea career, scoring on his debut in a 3-2 victory over Birmingham City. However, the goals dried up and the Peruvian ended the season with only four league starts and two league goals to his name.

The Peruvian was brought to Stamford Bridge by Jose Mourinho however his departure, and the arrival of Nicolas Anelka in the January transfer window, all contributed to his falling down the pecking order at the club and may have contributed to his desire to leave.

The former Bayern Munich striker missed Chelsea’s pre-season tour of Asia through injury which had also increased speculation that he would leave this summer with both Premier League new boys Stoke and Hull linked with a move for the front man.

However, he has opted for a return to Bremen, who he played for before moving to Bayern, which means the Blues are losing a striker although they appear to have plenty of options up front.

Didier Drogba has now reportedly pledged his future to Chelsea after a summer which saw him linked with a move away from the club, although the Ivorian only managed 8 league goals in an injury-disrupted last campaign.

Other options for Luiz Felipe Scolari include the struggling Andriy Shevchenko, who has been unable to replicate his Milan form in two seasons at Stamford Bridge, Nicolas Anelka who managed only one league goal for his new club last season and Saloman Kalou.
