Official: Rangers Sign Edu, Agree Davis Fee

Rangers have finished off a busy week in the transfer marked by announcing that Maurice Edu wil arrive at Ibrox subject to a successful work permit application...

Things looked bleak for Rangers when they crashed out of the Champions League and sold fans' favourite Carlos Cuellar to Premiership side Aston Villa.

However, the Gers are desperately trying to redeem themselves, flying out of the traps in the SPL and announcing a trio of quickfire signings.

New recruits Aaron Niguez and Pedro Mendes are set to be joined by highly-rated defensive midfielder Maurice Edu.

Rangers have confirmed a $5m deal with Major League Soccer, where he played for Toronto FC, and have agreed a 5 year deal with the versatile 22-year-old.

The move still hinges on the attainment of a work permit, but the Light Blues are hopeful that Edu's six USA caps and recent Olympic involvement will make their application successful.

Wheels in Motion

Edu was at Ibrox on Saturday to see his would-be teammates, Mendes included, overpower visitors Hearts to maintain their 100% league start.

A statement on the club's official website reads: "Rangers are pleased to have completed the deal but have to wait for the work permit situation to be sorted out and have now set the wheels in motion.

"[Edu] has now flown back to the USA to prepare for the World Cup qualifier in Guatemala on Wednesday."

And there could be more good news for Gers fans, with the transfer saga surrounding Steven Davis' potential switch seemingly nearing a happy conclusion.

The statement continues: "Steve Davis is also set to become a Rangers player tomorrow. A fee has been agreed with Fulham for the midfielder, who was on loan at Ibrox last season, and a deal has been agreed with the player in principle."

The Bears feared the worst when Cottagers boss Roy Hodgson insisted that it would take at least £6m to secure Davis, but sources suggest that the actual fee will be just under the £4m mark.
