Official: Lecce Sign Castillo

Newly promoted Serie A club Lecce have announced the signing of veteran striker Ignacio Castillo from Pisa.

As anticipated, newly promoted Lecce have completed the signing of former Pisa striker Jose Ignacio Castillo. The 33-year old Argentinean was one of the surprises of last season in Serie B, scoring 21 goals for the small-town Tuscan club to finish as one of the top scorers in Italy's second division.

Castillo was obviously eager for a move to a Serie A club considering his age, and urged his agent to find an agreement with an interested club. Fortunately for Castillo, a number of sides were keen on signing him.

However, Lecce for the first ones to make an official offer for the striker, and only a few days of negotiations later a fee was agreed on. It's not certain how much Lecce paid for the player, but reports suggest Pisa will receive around 2 million euros.

The southern Italian club had already strengthened their strikeforce with Daniele Cacia, who joined from Fiorentina earlier this summer, although half of his 'property rights' still belonged to former club Piacenza.

Today, the Giallorossi played a friendly against amateur side Tamai, winning 3-0 with goals from Guillermo Giacomazzi, Cacia and Simone Tiribocchi.
