Iraq To Play European All-Star Team

The Iraqi football federation has lined up a friendly against Europe’s best players in a friendly match on October 6 in Rome.

The troubled country, who clinched the Asian Cup last year, will travel to Italy to play in the fixture organised by the Italian humanitarian association.

Speaking to AFP, the chief of the Iraqi football federation, Hussein Said, confirmed the match.

"This match, organised by an Italian humanitarian association, will pit our national team against the stars of European football, including Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo and AC Milan's Brazilian Kaka," he said.

"The revenue will go to orphans in Iraq and the children of our country suffering from incurable diseases."

Despite their Asian Cup triumph last year, Iraq have failed to qualify for the fourth round of the World Cup qualifying group in Asia.
