Madrid grab Garay from Racing

Real Madrid has signed Racing Santander centre-back Ezequiel Garay to a contract for the next six seasons. Twenyt-one year old Garay was born in Rosaria, Argentina and will remain on loan with Racing next season.

Real Madrid CF have signed defender Ezequiel Garay from Real Racing Club Santander for a fee of around €10m – but have loaned him back to the UEFA Cup qualifiers.

Ezequiel Garay debuted with Newell's Old Boys in 2004 and one season later joined Racing Santander.

Although a savvy defender, the centre-back is also has a knack for set-pieces. He scored 10 goals (seven penalty kicks) in 31 matches and was Europe's highest scoring defender.

Garay received his first call-up from the Argentine national team on 18 May 2007 and debuted five days later in a friendly against Norway.
